Facelift

A user-focused platform designed for face:LIFT, a University of Malta research project that uses AI to generate facial images from text.

We collaborated with the University of Malta on this Project. Funded by the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST), the initiative set out to explore innovative applications of artificial intelligence in multimodal information processing. At its core, the goal was to develop an advanced text-to-image technology.

Our task was to design and build a platform that could embody the complexity of the research while remaining intuitive for users. This meant thinking beyond aesthetics and into clarity, usability, and trust. We created a digital experience that placed the technology at the forefront, guiding users through the process of inputting descriptions and receiving visual outputs in a way that felt accessible. Collaboration was central to the project. I worked closely with developers and the project manager. Every step involved bridging the gap between research objectives and user experience considerations, ensuring the platform both supported the academic work and offered a glimpse of how such technology could be applied in real-world contexts.

The result was a platform that does more than showcase AI research. It demonstrates the future possibilities of multimodal processing while providing a clear, approachable way for people to interact with cutting-edge technology. For me, this project highlighted how design can make advanced research both accessible and impactful, shaping the way innovation is experienced outside the lab.

Whether it’s a new product, a redesign, or just an idea taking shape — I’d love to hear about it.
